Cambelt failure is pretty serious stuff. If your cambelt isn’t changed at the specified interval or neglected, it will fail. Over a period of time and mileage, the rubber cambelt deteriorates and, if neglected, can suddenly snap, leading to expensive major repairs to your engine-or even a new engine.
Typically, VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda engines have their cambelts renewed every 4-5 years or 60,000-80,000 miles (whichever soonest) depending on the engine type and model year.
